Each year Phi Theta Kappa hosts an All-State academic competition as a component of the national All-America academic competition sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa, USA Today, and the America Association of Community Colleges. The competitions score applicants in categories of academic recognition, activities leadership and community service and a student essay.

Melinda Hornbeck, an Ivy Tech criminal justice student, was named New Century Scholar, the highest scoring All-USA applicant from Indiana . She received a $2,000 scholarship from the Coca-Cola Foundation and will be honored at the AACC convention in Tampa later this spring.  Barbara Ault, a Ivy Tech business administration student, was named One America Scholar, the second highest scoring Indiana applicant. She received a $1,000 from One America.
