This semester is closing very quickly. Too quickly. I received a letter to be in that honor society/phi theta something or other the other day. I didn't think much of it until I talked to my sister when she said it would look good on a resume. Apparently I thought too long about it, because I missed the deadline. Ah well, hopefully I'll get another letter to be in it next semester. I have actually enjoyed my class and have learned a TON from it. All I have to do now is just buckle down for the final and then I'm done...then pray to God I get into the nursing program. I won't find that out until the end of May, so it'll be a tense couple of weeks.
Well I'm off to Chicago on the 21st to see the Mets at the Cubs. It'll be my first time at Wrigley, so I'm really excited for that. I've had my fill of Mets games ever since I got the MLB package for cable. It's seriously been my savior. The only bad thing about it is that the games aren't in HD; it's so hard to go back to low def when you've had high def for a while. I guess none of that is as good as actually going to games, though. I'm definitely looking forward to Cincinnati and St. Louis this summer... oh, and Shea, if I end up going back home.

It's getting closer to the end of the semester and usually I'd be saying it's time for me to get my butt in gear and buckle down. However, this is not the case for probably the first time in my life! ha. I'm doing pretty well, so I can just relax and keep doin' what I've been doing to maintain my A. I also recently submitted my application for the nursing program, so we'll see how that goes, too.
Well, baseball is officially underway; I'm actually sittin' on my couch and watching the Mets as I type. Day 1 vs. the Marlins I was alllll smiles. Day 2, tears. Pedro is hurt, yet again. However, I got thinking and it's not the end of the world. Pedro was hurt for 3/4 of the season last year and the Mets were in first place all the way up to the end of September. So if we have him, great. If not, we'll find a way. There are a ton of guys already on the DL; I was pretty amazed. None that affected my fantasy line up, though. I was smart this year and drafted right as soon as the season started, rather than a week before. This is the first year that I have had a philly on one of my teams. Although I am ashamed, who doesn't want Chase Utley?? Second base is a position with the least depth in the majors, so if I have to sacrifice having a philly on my team, then so be it. This is, by far, the worst thing about fantasy baseball.

Well, I have two tests sitting between me and sunny Florida. It's crazy to believe that this semester is half over. On a bright note, I'm doing very well in my class so far, and I'm planning to take the TEAS test soon. I've been doing a bit of practice for that, so we'll see how that goes. Thank god I have a while to take it incase I screw up the first few times.
I am happy to report that racing season is fully underway. Jimmie had a bad day at Daytona, but finished a strong 2nd behind that ridiculously fast #99. I hate that guy.. and his backflips. Ah well, there's still 30some races left. I do have a question for anyone from this town: what is going on with all of these pacer players? Is there a persons shot quota that needs to be met in order to suit up everyday? Some of these guys are just ridiculous. I did have the amazing opportunity to watch them vs. the celtics from the floor, thanks to everyone at Ivy Tech. The pacers seemed to keep up with them, but just couldn't make it happen in the end. I didn't even care who won, it was just awesome to see all those guys 5 feet away from me. That sort of stuff never gets old.
February 7, 2008
Well this has been a very exciting few weeks in the wide world of sports. First off, Daytona is only a week away. Second, a New York team won the superbowl; especially against the evil empire in Boston. I couldn't have been happier if it were actually my team that won. But the biggest news of the year: Johan Santana. As if I wasn't already overly excited about my spring break trip to Port St. Lucie. I kiss my tickets every night before I go to bed. Just kidding. No, I'm not. Spring training games are the best because the fields aren't as big so you get to see the big guys up close, and the tickets and drinks are cheaper! Sure, the games don't mean squat, but it's exciting seeing new players on the team and the start of a new season (especially if your home team is 750 miles away). You also get to sit in the sun, sip on a few choice beverages and watch the greatest game every played. The new Citi field that's opening in 2009 looks like it's going to be amazing, but if I make it home this summer, Shea stadium will definitely be on my list of things to do. I am, however, trying to make plans to see the Mets in Chicago, Cincinnati, St. Louis and even Milwaukee. I love going to new ballparks, speedways and stadiums; and I have a personal goal to go to all of them before I die. Every single one.

The start of this semester started off just like the last one: I didn't know anyone. At all. It may be a good thing, however, because I definitely need to get an 'A' in order to be considered for the nursing program. The layout for Anatomy I and II are very different points-wise. I like having quizzes every class now, they keep me in line. They have been going very well so far, so I'll be updating my progress as the semester goes on.
I guess the best thing about life is that you always have something to look forward to. In my case, I have several. 21 days 'til pitchers and catchers, 24 'til the Daytona 500, and 42 'til I go to florida again and catch a few Mets spring training games. So until then, I'll have the superbowl and college basketball games to hold me over.

After a great winter vacation, I'm definitely ready to start classes again. My upcoming schedule isn't a rough one, considering I only have to take one class to finish the pre-requisites for nursing. I'm re-taking ANP 101 to get a better grade. All of my other credits for general requirements transferred from my other school, and I was thrilled about that. Looks like someone is going to have to find a job this semester. I'm going to be so bored!
I departed Indy for New York on 12/20 where I was picked up at the airport by one of my best friends. The next few days consisted of pure mayhem. From country rock n' bowling to classy dinners to christmas parties (all of which were accompanied by a few cocktails), I'd say my time in New York was well spent. I got to catch up with some old friends and spend the majority of my time with my best ones. My family time was great as well. I had a bit of an allergic reaction to some nutmeg when I had a few tom & jerry's on Christmas, though. Those drinks have been in my family for about a century. I have no idea what's in them except the main ingredient: brandy.
I departed for NYC on the 30th with my boyfriend to visit a friend for New Year's (we went to the upper east side; I would have been an idiot to go into times square). Let's just say open bar from 10pm-3am would be the reason why I don't remember much. I do remember my friend yelling out a cab at some guy who looked like Orlando Bloom. He was throwing up on the sidewalk and she wanted to call him out on it. We then had the most expensive breakfast I've ever had at 4am. The next day (yes, hungover) my boyfriend and I made the trek down to Florida to visit my mom. Man, I felt so bad for Scott. I slept pretty much the whole way down. Thank God we made it! The month-long vacation continued with free drinks on Wednesdays, beaches, Karaoke, golf, and a weekend at my Uncle's on the other side of the state. With a few days before we were to drive back to Indy, my body had enough. I was throwing up all day when I was at my uncle's. Let's just say I'm happy to be back in Indy.

I can't believe finals week is just one week away. Lucky for me I only have 2 tests and one paper left for me to do then I'm done. After everything is all said and done, I'm going back to New York for the holidays. My sister is really freaking me out on how much she's planned for my time there. All I know is that we're going to be doing a lot of shopping, going to Syracuse games, and drinking. That's my sister for ya. She's probably the greatest thing since sliced bread. I've heard people complain about the snow here already! The amount of snow here doesn't even come close to the amount I used to get back home. One of the things I miss about New York: snow days.
As I predicted, the Jets got the win against the Dolphins. Those poor souls. It was a little too late for my fantasy team, though. I'm definitely out of the playoffs. Oh well, it just gets me that much more excited for baseball season. I hate the Tigers for making that huge deal for Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis. I don't care what DTrain did last year, he's still a young, unbelievable lefty that is going to do wonders wherever he goes. He's they type of guy that doesn't care about money; he just loves life and would have been just as happy going to the royals. I'm just upset the Mets didn't pick him up. They had better be going after Johan, Danny Haren or Erik Bedard. If not, I will definitely throw up. These winter meetings are going to be the death of me because I hate all these deals the red sox are trying to make and it's just making me more stressed out! Speaking of stressed out, I went to the pacers/mavs game about a week and a half ago. Man, Avery Johnson got kicked out pretty much before the game even started! haha, not really, but he was awesome. Mark Cuban is just an icon. I love that guy.

Thanksgiving break could not have come at a better time. I love being able to relax, have a few cocktails and go christmas shopping! I actually went a little nuts this year and put up my christmas tree and decorations already.
I love Christmas time and am not a big Thanksgiving person. I obviously appreciate the holiday and everything it stands for, but it's just another obstacle standing in the way from me and the Christmas Story marathon. I know, I know.. some may say I'm an idiot by not loving eating all day, but I practically do that everyday anyway! I grew up on fast food, so give me french fries over stuffing and that cranberry crap any day. I'd have to say football is the best part of the holiday.
Oh, and black friday? It will have absolutely ZERO part in that. People are nuts at 4am trying to save a few bucks. I'd rather spend a little extra and not have a heart attack trying to find gifts. So I definitely apologize for the "steelers are going to pound the patriots" comment. Afterall, the j-e-t-s Jets Jets Jets beat them in overtime. YIPPIEEE. Obviously, the steelers oversaw them; so I'm sure they will be more than ready for the pats. The Jets win and Jimmie Johnson clinching the Nextel cup championship sunday was pretty much the best day of my life.
Everyone be safe tonight (the night before turkey day) and have a great holiday!

I suppose now is about the time where I ask where the semester has gone, and how am I going to get all the work done that I have been procrastinating? Well, thankfully, I have no more visits from friends until I go home after the semester is over. However, I do have some spontaneous friends, so we'll see. I actually don't believe I am completely overwhelmed, so things should work out well for me.
As for 'New York does Indy' part 2, that's another story. I went to see Craig Morgan before my friends' flight came in Friday, and he was AMAZING. He's hilarious! The rest of the weekend was a little hazy, but I do remember something about falling off my stool and cracking my head open and needing 8 stitches.. not a big deal or anything. I was a bit upset with the football game, though. I absolutely hate all boston sports, so needless to say I made all those pats fans feel REALLY welcome when they came to town. ha. Oh well, I'm not worried because they won't run the table; they'll get smoked when the steelers go to foxboro. As for my team, I can't stress enough how convenient this bye week is. They need to re-group and make sure they get their next and last win of the season (miami). If only the rams were on the schedule. rats. Even my fantasy teams are in shambles. Who would have thought Travis Henry, Stephen Jackson and Brandon Jacobs would all get hurt and all be on my team? Unbelievable. That wonderful, spectacular and indestructible bears defense is also killing me. I think I'm a curse to professional sports. On a brighter note, ncaa basketball is starting... and how about those ORANGE. I'm glad I'll get a chance to go to some games while I'm home for Christmas.
Ok, enough about that. I do, from time to time, have to refocus myself and not get carried away with the personal life. I'm very much looking forward to finishing out the semester strong, and getting closer to reaching my personal goals.
October 24, 2007
Well, there's good news and bad news for me. Good news is that I had the most amazing long weekend with my friend from New York. Bad news is that I didn't get to study as much as I wanted for my tests this week. I still think I did well, though.
I didn't get as much trash talk from the Cincy fans as much as I thought I would; probably because A: I was a girl and B: because my friend was wearing a houshmandzadeh jersey. Oh well, whatever it was, I'll take it.
I gave my friend the tour of Indy and she absolutely loves it here. Being from small towns, Indy is such a great transition from cow-country to the city life. We always had to drive at least an hour to get to a Hooters (our favorite restaurant) and it's amazing that there's three of them in the area. Needless to say, we spent a lot of time downtown enjoying what Indy had to offer. I also took her to Broad Ripple to get the full experience. There's a lot I have to say about that place, but I don't think it's appropriate for this type of thing. haha. They do have a great band on Wednesday nights, though.
I'm just spending this week and part of next week recovering and catching up on work. I don't have much planned, but my boyfriend's nephew, Brady, has a birthday today and I'm wicked excited for the party this weekend for him! The little guy is turning two. Then next weekend, I have some more New Yorkers coming again for the patriots/colts game.. definitely should be exciting.
October 11, 2007
Life is a little crazy at the moment. My best friend from New York is coming to visit next week, so I'm trying to study and get all my work done for the next two weeks so I can have fun with her!
On a side note, since my Mets choked the worst in baseball history, I'm hoppin' on the Rockies bandwagon. I couldn't believe it. They've lost one game in the past three weeks. Unbelievable. I was BEYOND thrilled when they swept the Phillies. So as long as the Red Sox lose in the championship series, I will be content (Everyone in my family, except myself, are yankees fans). Now we just have to get those Jets moving! I definitely understand that I'm not going to get any sympathy out here in Indiana for my football woes.
When my friend comes, we are going down to Cincinnati for the Bengals/Jets game. It's definitely going to be an interesting experience with myself in a Vilma jersey in Cinci. I hope I come back alive!
I'm actually happy with what this semester has turned out to be so far. I'm meeting all sorts of new people (probably some that I wouldn't have even thought existed in New York), but it's absolutely wonderful. There is one thing that I wish I had more interest and enthusiasm in: the Indianapolis Colts. I'm sure I'll get there eventually.

My name is Ashley and I have just moved to Indianapolis from upstate New York. In the past, I have had some trouble figuring out what I have wanted to do for a living. After being given the chance to move, I found that Ivy Tech has a vast selection of career opportunities, so I applied. I am now attending the Indianapolis campus, as well as the Lawrence campus to pursue a nursing career. I have heard nothing but exceptional feedback from the students as well as the community on how the excellent the nursing program is.
Coming from a small town and school, it was hard at first getting used to the size of the new city that I was living in. After attending my first classes, it was nice to see how small the class sizes were; it made me comfortable and at home. Ivy Tech also accepted all of the courses from my previous institution that were relevant to nursing and the school, even the intro to Ivy Tech class! I was thrilled that I didn’t have to take the classes over.
I am taking the pre-requisite courses for the nursing program (anatomy 102, and psychology) and two other general requirements for the college (intro to communication and technical writing). I have already had a few tests, and have gone shockingly well. The professors have done a great job in explaining course material that is relevant to the exams.
